Only Open/36 rehosts S/36 applications to UNIX without recompiling.

Open/36 is a set of programs that allows IBM System/36 applications and software products to be migrated to Open Systems such as the IBM RS/6000 and the HP9000. Open/36 provides an enhanced System/36 environment that supervisors and operators will feel comfortable in. 

S/36 applications can continue to be developed. Existing applications can be enhanced using new capabilities provided by Open/36, such as Database Support, programmable C Interface, Open ODBC, conversion to GUI without changing or recompiling the application programs and more.

 The Thin Client eliminates the need for any terminal emulators. It allows local and remote users to access applications running on the Open/36 server, data manipulation is done locally, transmission to the host is only done when required by the host applications thereby allowing extremely fast response time regardless of the network topology. 

The Thin Client includes several features to modernize your legacy applications.


Efficiently delivers data and reports to your end users.

The Report Organizer component allows archiving and spooling of reports generated by your provider's application. New Open/36 procedures allow your application to transparently interact with the Report  Organizer. 

The spooler feature of the Report Organizer can be used to associate network printers to your Open/36 printers so reports can be spooled and printed via the Report Organizer.
